Rep. Chip Roy criticized President Joe Biden Wednesday for “lying to the American people” during Tuesday night’s State of the Union address.
The lifting of mask mandates in Washington, D.C., in time for the State of the Union was more than coincidental, the Texas Republican suggested.
“A number of states have lifted their mandates all suddenly, coincidentally timed around the State of the Union,” Roy said.

Watching Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi declare a new moment in the pandemic and hearing Democrats applauding a great victory through the action “of the genius of our federal government” have been more than insulting, he said.

“Tell that to the children who have been sitting in the corners of classrooms wearing masks,” Roy fired back at his liberal colleagues. “Tell that to the members of our military, the members of our Border Patrol.”
“The so-called heroes — I say so-called because my Democratic colleagues a year ago were calling healthcare workers heroes, and now, they’re forcing them still to lose their jobs if they don’t take a jab,” he said.
Biden and Democrats have begun arrogantly preaching to the nation that they will defeat the virus, Roy said.
They are demanding the refunding of police after years of opposition to law enforcement, according to the Texas lawmaker.
“The president is reading polls,” Roy said. “The president knows that the approach to the virus has been devastating to the American people. Lockdowns, mask mandates, [and] vaccine mandates are being rejected by the American people, and the polls show it. So, the magic moment has arrived.”
