An off-duty Baltimore police officer was arrested in Harford County Saturday on charges of assaulting three people and brandishing a gun at an ex-girlfriend?s house, police said.
William Warner, 21, allegedly went to the Abingdon home of former girlfriend Tara Flynn, 20, just after midnight Saturday to confront her and two other men on her back porch, said Sgt. David Betz, spokesman for the Harford County Sheriff?s Office.
Charging documents did not mention that Warner is a police officer, but other court records list him as an officer in the city?s Southeastern District. Baltimore police spokesman Sterling Clifford confirmed that Warner is a member of the department, and that he has been suspended pending a hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
Betz said the argument Saturday moved to the front yard, where Warner became increasingly agitated while talking to Jeremiah Moyer, 28. Warner went to his car, retrieved a handgun, and threatened Moyer with it, Betz said.
“He cocked the gun and stuck it in the victim?s face,” he said.
At some point, Warner lowered the gun and Moyer left. Warner tried to enter the house uninvited and got into a scuffle in the hallway, allegedly throwing Flynn to the ground and pushing Peter Kauders, 27, into a wall hard enough to make a holein the drywall, Betz said. Warner apparently had to catch a ride, and left after the confrontation in the hall.
Betz said he did not know why Warner confronted Flynn, but witnesses said he appeared intoxicated at the time.
Warner was arrested later Saturday at his residence on charges of first-degree assault, three counts of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, trespassing, third- and fourth-degree burglary, and use of a handgun in a violent crime, Betz said.
Warner was released later that day on $25,000 bond, according to court records.
