Texas Rep. Vicente Gonzalez wins primary in neighboring district

Gonzalez, who currently represents the 15th District, opted to run in the neighboring border district after his district was made more challenging due to congressional lines being redrawn.

The seat is being vacated by retiring Democratic Rep. Filemon Vela, who opted not to seek a fourth term in the lower chamber.

Gonzalez faced six challengers in the race: Dr. Laura Cisneros, Air Force veteran Beatriz Reynoso, Osbert Rodriguez Haro III, Marine veteran William Thompson, teacher Diego Zavala, and Filemon Meza.

Gonzalez heavily outraised and outspent his opponents, with the latest FEC documents showing the candidate having brought in over $1 million more than any of his competitors.
