CNN host Jake Tapper joked Sunday that Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., may take issue with presidential misstatements under a hypothetical Oprah Winfrey administration after the Republican lawmaker wouldn’t outright criticize President Trump for inaccurate comments about Americans held hostage in North Korea.
“Let the record reflect that I do think it is important whether or not a president tells people the truth, and I’m guessing during the President Oprah administration you might have some thoughts on this,” Tapper quipped during his interview with Blunt on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Tapper had been pressing Blunt on his thoughts after Trump blamed former President Barack Obama for delays in negotiating the release of the three known Americans imprisoned in North Korea.
However, two of the three were arrested after Trump took office.
Instead, Blunt praised Trump for his accomplishments, excluding certain international trade decisions, and for his accessibility to the press.
“The more important thing I would suggest is doing what you say you are going to do when you’re elected president,” Blunt said.
