Poll: Trump behind but holding steady despite video leak

A new poll shows that Hillary Clinton hasn’t been able to capitalize on the leaked 2005 videotape in which Donald Trump was making lewd comments about women.

More than a week after the tape was released, Clinton maintained the support of 46 percent of the voters in an NBC News/SurveyMonkey weekly poll released Tuesday, the same level of support she has had for the prior two weeks. Trump’s support dropped, but just by 1 point, to 40 percent.

Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson is at a steady 8 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein is at 4 percent.

In a two-way race, Clinton leads by 8 points, 51-43. This margin has grown since the first debate with the Republican presidential nominee.

After a week focusing on Trump’s alleged sexual indiscretions with women, likely women voters prefer Clinton by 18 points and Trump continues to hold onto a 7-point lead among likely male voters.

However, the Republican wins the male demographic among those age 45 and over. Younger men split between the two candidates, as those under 30 favor Clinton by 5 points, and men aged 33-44 narrowly prefer Clinton 41-40. Clinton wins every age demographic of female likely voters.

The online poll of 24,804 likely voters was conducted Oct. 10-16 and has margin of error of plus or minus 1 percentage point.
