Uber announced that it was investigating a breach of its systems claimed by an 18-year-old hacker.
The ride-sharing company quickly responded to the hack by taking down several of its internal communication tools and engineering systems as it investigated the extent of the breach. It also said that it had alerted authorities about the hack.

“We are currently responding to a cybersecurity incident. We are in touch with law enforcement and will post additional updates here as they become available,” Uber announced in a Thursday night statement.
“I announce i am a hacker and uber has suffered a data breach,” the hacker posted on the company Slack. The willingness to self-reveal led several employees to believe the post was a joke, according to the Washington Post. Internal screenshots viewed by the Post appear to imply that the hacker had wide-ranging access within the company’s systems.
