Entrepreneur Andrew Yang’s presidential campaign contacted the FBI after he and members of his team received death threats over email.
“Recently, the campaign received threats via email regarding the candidate and specific public events,” a Yang campaign official told the Hill on Wednesday. “Due to certain specific information contained in the emails, and out of an abundance of caution, we immediately contacted the FBI and local enforcement and have been working with them.”
“The candidate’s safety and the safety of the public at-large is our utmost priority and we’ll continue to stay alert while following the guidance of law enforcement to take any necessary security measures. We’ve referred the matter to the FBI for investigation,” the campaign official added.
The email threats were sent from a user who called himself “HitmanYang.” The person threatened to shoot campaign staffers if Yang continued to tweet a certain amount of times.
The threat came to the Yang campaign while he was in New Hampshire. He is currently polling at 3% nationally, according to RealClearPolitics.
