“Double your pleasure, double your fun!” is how Flower Mart Executive Director Carol Purcell describes the 89th Annual Baltimore Flower Mart.
This is the first year the event has taken placeover two days and on a weekend. Normally held on a Wednesday, Flower Mart 2006 is held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
“The committee made the decision to change the dates,” Purcell said. “We had really expanded ourselves. I threw it out on the floor and the committee came back and said there?s no question about it, we want it on Friday and Saturday.”
Purcell hopes to bring in the families who may not have had a chance to come last year.
Flower Mart has a lot of kid-friendly activities, such as the Fantasy Hair Contest, the Humane Society?s Royal Parade (where the best dressed animal will be the 89th Flower Mart Mascot) and many hands-on activities from vendors like Port Discovery, Enoch Pratt and the Maryland Zoo.
The change to weekend days also allowed Flower Mart to expand their vendors.
Flower Mart 2006 boasts 135 vendors. Last year?s Flower Mart saw about 40,000 people, which Purcell hopes to double this weekend.
