Freight train hits man on tracks

A man was hit by a freight train early Monday near the D.C. and Maryland line.

The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. on the tracks near the intersection of Eastern Avenue and 37th Street Northeast, according to D.C. Fire & EMS.

An adult man had to be pulled from underneath the train, according to D.C. Fire & EMS spokesman Pete Piringer. He had life-threatening injuries, Piringer said. An update on his condition was not available Monday afternoon.

MARC commuter trains use the tracks but the incident did not affect the morning commute.

The incident comes just three days after a man was fatally struck by a MARC train on CSX tracks near Gaithersburg. That death shut down service for more than two hours during the evening commute on Friday.
