Trump to ‘monitor’ James Comey testimony with legal team, close advisers: Report

President Trump will watch former FBI Director James Comey testify in front of Congress with his legal team and close advisers on Thursday, according to a report.

“Trump will monitor Comey in a [White House] dining room with his legal team and some of his closest advisers,” a senior White House aide told NBC News reporter Peter Alexander.

“At least 3 members of Trump’s legal team will be at WH watching Comey testimony w Trump, including outside counsel Marc Kasowitz,” Alexander tweeted.

Comey is set to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee at 10 a.m. about his conversations with Trump before he was fired from the FBI and a closed hearing at 1 p.m.

According to Comey’s submitted testimony, the FBI director told Trump three separate times that the president was not under investigation in the FBI’s probe of Russian interference with the 2016 elections.

Kasowitz, Trump’s attorney, said in a statement Wednesday that the president “is pleased Mr. Comey has finally publicly confirmed his private reports that the president was not under investigation in any Russian probe.” He said, “The president feels completely and totally vindicated.”

On Tuesday, Trump wished the former FBI director good luck ahead of his testimony. “I wish him luck,” Trump told reporters.

Trump may live-tweet during Comey’s testimony, according to multiple reports earlier this week. “The president is expected to be tweeting on Thursday in response to Comey, not to stay quiet during the testimony,” Washington Post reporter Robert Costa said. “Because he himself wants to be the one driving the process.”

Trump may get an opportunity to react to the testimony, as he is scheduled to appear before the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s “Road to Majority” conference at 12:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said, “The president is going to have a very busy day as he does all the time, and I think he’s going to be focused on pursuing the agenda and the priorities that he was elected to do.”
