Schumer: We should wait ‘months down the road’ to make a decision on impeachment

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said during a Tuesday press conference that Democrats should wait months before deciding whether to impeach President Trump.

“We don’t know all of it yet and the more new facts come out the better informed decision the American people and then the Congress can make on this issue,” Schumer said at the press conference. “So I think the strategy of getting as much of the facts out and then months down the road making a decision on impeachment … is the right strategy.”

Schumer’s stance on impeachment appears aligned with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She has refused to back impeachment while attempting to control the party, but the number of Democrats coming out in favor of removing President Trump from office is increasing.

According to the Hill’s impeachment whip count, 62 House Democrats — over a quarter of the caucus — have come out in favor of either impeaching President Trump or starting an investigation into the matter.

Democratic California Rep. Katie Porter is the most recent House Democrat to back impeachment, in a video posted Monday night to Twitter.
