Rep.-elect George Santos (R-NY) pledged to address allegations he fabricated or misrepresented major parts of his personal backstory, announcing that he will make public comments sometime “next week.”
“To the people of #NY03 I have my story to tell and it will be told next week,” Santos posted to Twitter Thursday. “I want to assure everyone that I will address your questions and that I remain committed to deliver the results I campaigned on; Public safety, Inflation, Education & more.”

“Happy Holidays to all!” he added.
Santos, a Republican elected to represent New York’s 3rd Congressional District, is engulfed in accusations that he’s been untruthful about his career and family history, including claims that his grandparents “survived the Holocaust.” A New York Times investigation found that Baruch College and New York University don’t have records of his attendance, nor do Citigroup and Goldman Sachs have employment records for him.
The Daily Beast also found that Santos, who is gay and claims to have been out for 10 years, divorced from a woman in 2019 and did not disclose the marriage during his campaign.
Santos’s lawyer said the reports were attempts to smear the newly-elected New York Republican.

“Santos represents the kind of progress that the Left is so threatened by — a gay, Latino, immigrant and Republican who won a Biden district in overwhelming fashion by showing everyday voters that there is a better option than the broken promises and failed policies of the Democratic Party,” attorney Joseph Murray said.
Santos defeated Democrat Robert Zimmerman in a district that covers parts of Queens and some Long Island suburbs with a message focused on crime and inflation. Santos will take office on Jan. 3 as part of the New York red wave that contributed to next year’s slim House Republican majority.
