The White House on Tuesday said migrants are being expelled into Mexico’s interior to halt repeat border crossings, among other removal tactics, with the surge of people crossing illegally threatening Democratic chances in the 2022 elections.
Starting last Friday, the Biden administration began transferring some families in the country illegally to the interior of Mexico, far from the country’s border with the United States. It’s an attempt to slash repeat border crossings, press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters Tuesday.

The Biden administration is also using “lateral flights” to transport migrants from one part of the border to another, “where there might be more processing capability, or facility capacity, to expel migrants under Title 42,” Psaki said.
For months, Republicans have sought to draw attention to the White House’s handling of the migration surge along the southern U.S. border. But as the issue becomes a political liability for President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party in future elections, allies are now demanding swifter action in order to deter people from making the trip.
