Conway cancels trip to Canada oil sands due to Trump inauguration

President-elect Trump’s counselor Kellyanne Conway has cancelled a trip to Canada’s oil fields that was scheduled for next week due to it being so close to the inauguration on Jan. 20.

The conservative Alberta Prosperity Fund, which arranged the visit with Conway that it announced in November, said Saturday that the Jan. 12 visit had to be canceled.

“I can tell you that Ms. Conway’s office and our own have tried every option at our disposal to make this work and, unfortunately, a visit is just not possible at this time,” said Barry McNamer, the Fund’s president. She was meant to address a gathering of industry and leaders in Alberta after being given a tour of oil sand mining operations there.

The oil producers in the region would benefit from the approval of the Keystone XL pipeline, which supporters of the project want Trump to approve in his first 100 days in office.
