The Baltimore City Council forgot to pay an important bill. As a result, the council Web site that provides a variety of information to the public was shut down Tuesday morning.
A spokesman for City Council President Sheila Dixon said the glitch was temporary. “It will be fixed within 24 hours,” Chris Williams said early Tuesday morning.
City government watchers discovered the glitch when they tried to access the site and were re-directed to the Network Solutions Web site, which said that the domain name had expired, and was pending “renewal or deletion.”
Williams said the downtime was just an administrative snafu.
“The domain name needed to be renewed, and it seems that the check didn?t get there in time,” he said.
And while not being able to find the number of a City Council member is an inconvenience, the Web site also provides access to the vital legislative information center, a database that contains two years worth of City Council bills and resolutions. Searchable by key word or bill number, the database provides complete texts of the bills as well as amendments, council agendas and the schedule of City Council hearings. For concerned residents, Williams promised quick action.
“It will be up shortly,” he said.
