Donald Trump Jr. likes tweet appearing to blame FBI for Florida school shooting

Donald Trump Jr. on Thursday liked a tweet from conservative commentator Kurt Schlichter that appeared to blame the FBI for not stopping the Parkland, Fla., high school shooting because the bureau was too busy investigating President Trump.

“The FBI was too busy trying to undermine the president to bother with doing it’s freaking job,” Schlichter tweeted Thursday.

The FBI was reportedly alerted last fall about a person named Nikolas Cruz who commented on a YouTube video saying he was “going to be a professional school shooter.”

The suspected gunman in Wednesday’s shooting that left 17 people dead had the same name as the YouTube commenter, but FBI officials have not said whether the YouTube commenter is the same person as the alleged gunman, BuzzFeed News reported.

Questions have since emerged over whether the FBI missed warning signs about Cruz. Cruz had been expelled last year from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in South Florida, where the shooting took place, and he’s been described as a troubled “loner.”

The FBI and Congress have been investigating Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election and whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia.

FBI Director Christopher Wray chided the media Tuesday during a congressional hearing for only focusing on its investigation into Russia’s interference and Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.

“Although you would never know it from watching the news, we actually have more than two investigations,” he told the Senate Intelligence Committee.
