Several East Coast airports have been experiencing hundreds of cancellations and delays as a powerful winter storm barreled through parts of the Northeast and South.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport were among the top airports greatly affected by the winter storm, Izzy, CNN reported. Charlotte Douglas saw more than 400 flight cancellations and over 90 delays, while Ronald Reagan saw over 150 flights canceled and nearly 30 flights delayed as of Monday, according to Flight Aware.
“This weekend’s winter storm is expected to have a significant impact on our operation, especially at Charlotte International Airport,” American Airlines said in a statement.
THOUSANDS OF FLIGHTS CANCELED ON CHRISTMAS EVE
A total of 1,417 flights within, into, and out of the United States were reported to be canceled as of Monday morning, according to Flight Aware.
American Airlines had one of the highest number of flights that had been disrupted from the storm, with 235 flights being canceled and 117 delayed. Southwest Airlines reported canceling 98 flights and having 75 delayed, while United reported canceling 84 flights and delaying 63.
Jet Blue and Delta Air Lines reported the lowest numbers of cancellations and delays as of Monday, according to Flight Aware. Jet Blue reported 55 cancellations and 102 delays, while Delta Air Lines showed 38 cancellations and 92 delays.

Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia declared a state of emergency on Friday, ahead of Izzy’s arrival.
The state of North Carolina experienced up to 12 inches of snow from Izzy as the winter storm made its way up to the Northeast states.
As of Sunday, roughly 80 million people on the East Coast were placed under a winter weather watch as they braced themselves for Izzy’s arrival.

Izzy was predicted to “bring heavy snow and damaging ice to much of the eastern third of the country” on Sunday and Monday, according to a tweet by the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center. “In some places, ice may accumulate to more than 1/4″, and snow will exceed 1 foot.”
