Tucker Carlson announces plans to bring new show to Twitter

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson announced Tuesday that he would be making his return with a new show on Twitter.

In a video posted on the platform, Carlson said he would return with a new version of his old Fox News show but aired on Twitter instead. He didn’t provide a time frame for when he would begin his new show.

In his video, Carlson described his outlook on news media, saying he feels it is misleading.

“You often hear people say the news is full of lies. But most of the time, it’s not exactly right,” Carlson said. “If I tell you that a man has been unjustly arrested for armed robbery, that is not, strictly speaking, a lie.”

He continued, “He may have been framed. At this point, there’s been no trial, so no one can really say. But if I don’t mention the fact that the same man has been arrested for the same crime six times before, am I really informing you? No, I’m not. I’m misleading you. And that’s what the news media are doing in every story that matters every day of the week, every week of the year.”

Carlson also touched on his career, saying, “After more than 30 years in the middle of it,” he could tell stories about the industry.

“The best you can hope for in the news business at this point is the freedom to tell the fullest truth that you can,” he said. “But there are always limits. You know that if you bump up against those limits often enough, you will be fired for it. That’s not a guess; it’s guaranteed.”

The former Fox News host then went on to praise Twitter as the “only” place on Earth that allows free speech but said he was “sick” of “gatekeepers” being in control of the dialogue. As such, he announced that he would begin his own show on Twitter.

“Starting soon, we’ll be bringing a new version of the show we’ve been doing for the last 6 1/2 years to Twitter. We bring some other things too, which we’ll tell you about,” Carlson said.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk responded to Carlson’s announcement to clarify that they hadn’t signed an exclusive deal, and that any misleading statements would be fact-checked.

“On this platform, unlike the one-way street of broadcast, people are able to interact, critique and refute whatever is said,” Musk tweeted.
