Man fatally shot near Howard University

A man was fatally shot to death Saturday night near the campus of Howard University in the District. The victim, 20-year-old Keenan Jerel Lee, of Capitol Heights, was found on the 2200 block or Georgia Avenue at about 10:15 p.m., according to police. Howard’s homecoming was held Saturday. A convicted felon in Arlington has been arrested on charges of burying a stash of guns found near Patrick Henry Drive and Interstate 66. Rodney Gunsauley, 61, of the 4000 block of North 17th Street was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility. County police and the FBI are investigating the incident.

The buried guns were found by construction workers on Oct. 12, according to police spokeswoman Crystal Nosal. Nosal said on Sunday she could “not get into specifics” about the contents of the stash but described it as “guns and gun parts.” According to court records, Gunsauley was found guilty in 2001 of obtaining money by false pretenses.

MontCo sheriffs arrest 40 in family violence sweep

Montgomery County sheriffs have arrested 40 people on family violence charges as part of a nationwide program that seeks to serve outstanding warrants for those suspected of assaulting their family members. The 9th Annual Family Violence Apprehension Detail was conducted in Montgomery last Thursday and Friday.

County law enforcement officials served 52 out of 56 outstanding warrants and arrested 40 people. Last year more than 160 law enforcement agencies from 22 states participated in the nationwide sweep. – Liz Farmer
