Fairfax County may ask for a 2 percent increase in hotel taxes to raise funding for a planned 60,000 square-foot conference center in Tysons Corner — but some local hotels are already balking at the proposed increase. The county’s hotel occupancy tax is 4 percent, and is typically factored into a guest’s bill. A 2 percent increase would raise about $9 million for construction costs on the new conference center, county spokeswoman Merni Fitzgerald said.
Details are sparse on the conference center itself — it’s an idea the county has been considering for some time, Fitzgerald said, and officials are still lining up funding for the center.
