Sheldon Adelson’s aides are looking to launch a pro-Trump super PAC

Aides to Republican megadonor Sheldon Adelson have been tasked with examining the possibility of developing a super political action committee to support Donald Trump in the general election.

According to a source familiar with the effort, discussions between Adelson’s team and a handful of GOP strategists have occurred, but no formal agreement has yet been reached. The project was first reported by Politico Tuesday afternoon.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who will lead Trump’s transition team if the presumptive Republican nominee makes it to the White House, has reportedly been scheduling meetings between potential donors and consultants to the PAC.

In addition to Christie, former Republican Governors Association executive directors Nick Ayers and Phil Cox are reportedly involved in discussions.

Donors looking to assist Trump in the general election, now that he’s reversed his previous pledge to continue self-funding his campaign, have found themselves searching for a credible outside organization to give their money to.

The pro-Trump Great America PAC has held weekly calls with donors – including a conference call featuring former Texas Gov. Rick Perry – and even added the billionaire’s former national field director to its staff on Tuesday, but it has yet to be seen as the premier outside group supporting Trump’s White House bid.

Adelson, however, has already pledged to put up as much as $100 million to help get Trump elected in November, suggesting the Nevada-based casino magnate would likely have the resources to assemble a serious outside organization if his aides are able to get others on board.
