Democratic strategist James Carville slammed Sen. Bernie Sanders after he called Carville a “political hack.”
Carville and Sanders began feuding after the strategist excoriated the socialist in an interview with Vox published Feb. 7. Carville suggested that a Sanders nomination against President Trump could cost Democrats the election.
Sanders appeared on CNN on Wednesday to hit back at Carville, calling him a “political hack” and an opportunist. Sanders also suggested that Carville is part of the Democratic “establishment” working to sink the Sanders campaign.
Carville responded in a phone call with Vanity Fair contributor Peter Hamby on Thursday. The Democratic strategist also embraced the label that Sanders placed on him.
“Last night on CNN, Bernie called me a political hack. That’s exactly who the f— I am! I am a political hack!” Carville told Hamby. “I am not an ideologue. I am not a purist.”
“[Sanders] thinks it’s a pejorative. I kinda like it!” Carville continued. “At least I’m not a communist.”
