Donald Trump will meet with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Wednesday, hours after he left the home of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence. Both men are rumored to be finalists in Trump’s search for a running mate.
Gingrich arrived in Indiana on Wednesday morning, according to multiple reports, and is expected to meet with Trump and his children, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric, who’ve played a significant role in the vice presidential vetting process, at a hotel in downtown Indianapolis.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee is expected to reveal his running mate at a campaign event on Friday and has narrowed it down to Gingrich, Pence and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Prior to their meeting with Pence on Wednesday morning, Trump and his family reportedly spent time with Christie on Tuesday.
All three men have joined Trump on the campaign trail within the past week in what the campaign saw as their audition for the vice presidential slot. Trump recently said he is looking for an attack dog who’s willing to deliver sharp jabs at his many critics, in addition to choosing someone with significant political experience — something he lacks.
Gingrich fueled speculation that he will emerge as Trump’s vice presidential pick when Fox News suspended his contract on Tuesday. The network said it “felt it best to halt [Gingrich’s] contributor role … to avoid all conflicts of interest that may arise.”
