Black Lives Matter protesters in Minneapolis were seen calling for the city to be burned down ahead of a verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial and compared police shootings to “genocide.”
“I say burn the city down, y’ know? So they can see that we’re here. Continue the movement,” one protester told filmmaker and self-described gonzo journalist Ami Horowitz in a video filmed in Minneapolis.

Horowitz then defined genocide, “the targeting of one race for its destruction,” and asked protesters if they thought the deaths of black Americans by police officers fit that description.
DEREK CHAUVIN FOUND GUILTY OF MURDER OF GEORGE FLOYD
“That’s a good question, and now that I’ve been confronted with it, I’m going to go ahead and say yes,” one protester responded.
Another person said: “Yeah, I think that’s one word for it.”
The video was posted to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, hours before Chauvin was found guilty on charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and manslaughter.
The city was bracing for riots if Chauvin was not found guilty, with some protesters in Howrowitz’s video saying they were “all for” burning the city to the ground.
“Yes, absolutely. And that’d be the least of our problems,” one woman said of burning the city.
“I’m all for burning it down. There shouldn’t even be a trial. He should be convicted just as is,” another said.
