Schumer: Trump engaged in ‘open and bald-faced bigotry’

Democratic leaders Monday stepped up criticism of President Trump’s attacks on four minority ultra-liberal House Democrats, led by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Schumer said Trump’s Sunday tweet calling for the freshmen to “go back” to “places from which they came from” is “one of the oldest and crudest tropes to malign nonwhite Americans.”

He pledged to copy a House plan to introduce a resolution condemning the president’s tweets.

Schumer called Trump’s comments part of “pattern of behavior,” that began with the president’s accusation that President Barack Obama was not born in the United States.

He suggested Republicans, who have remained largely silent “are making a deal with the devil,” by backing the president and his major policy achievements, including the tax cut law.

Schumer accused Trump of engaging in “open and bald-faced bigotry.”

Trump in a Sunday tweet called for Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts to “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done.”
