Gov. O?Malley challenged on connector highway

A Montgomery County resident challenged Gov. Martin O?Malley about why he did not task StateStat to study the creation of the Intercounty Connector highway before the governor went ahead with construction of the road from Beltsville to Rockville.

“This is a project that has been some 30 years in the works,” O?Malley said during his Monday visit to Washington where he touted data-driven governmenta la StateStat.

But he wants the state to study ways to “mitigate the bad things” the highway might cause and reduce the number of on- and off-ramps to discourage commercial development.

Alyce Ortuzar, an Olney activist opposed to the highway, said she couldn?t believe O?Malley brushed off a high-tech study of the highway.
