Ilhan Omar says AOC is right because ‘there are camps and people are being concentrated’

Rep. Ilhan Omar defended fellow Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after she compared the migrant detention centers to the Nazi concentration camps used during World War II.

“There are camps and people are being concentrated,” Omar said. “This is very simple. I don’t even know why this is a controversial thing to say.”

Omar said the United States needs to have an honest conversation on what is happening at the U.S.-Mexico border and shows why it is “really important for us to abolish [U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement].”

Omar retweeted a video on Thursday from CNN contributor Angela Rye, in which she argued what the United States is doing at the border will eventually lead to “death camps.”

Ocasio-Cortez has rebuffed calls from congressional Republicans to apologize for evoking the Holocaust when talking about the situation on the southern border.

“As long as the [House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy] supports jailing children and families on the border, I will continue to hold him to account for it,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “That’s why I’m calling on Rep. McCarthy to apologize for aiding and supporting the separation of children from their parents.”
