President Trump sought to reassure the country the federal government had the reponse to Hurricane Nate — which battered Mississippi, Florida and Alabama Sunday — well in hand.
“FEMA and first responders are working hard (yet again) on Hurricane Nate. Military helping. Very much under control!” Trump tweeted Sunday.
The president officially declared Alabama and Florida disaster areas earlier in the day.
Trump retweeted a follower saying, “Strong administration leads to a strong response.”
The storm hit the Gulf states late Saturday and Sunday, but was downgraded to a tropical depression later in the day by the National Hurricane Center.
More than 100,000 people in both states lost electricity after the storm’s landfall, including about 56,000 in Mobile, Ala.
