Console gamers, grab your pickax, because “Minecraft” is finally available to you.
The indie game that became a sensation, with its player-created superstructures, can now be enjoyed in a more streamlined version. You can read that as “Minecraft Lite” — since this version of the game is many updates behind the PC one.
The sandbox building game dumps you in a world with just your hands as tools. From there, you wander around, mining resources to craft tools, houses and any other crazy monstrosity you can dream up.
While the original “Minecraft” may have more options, the Xbox edition does a fantastic job making the controls simple to learn. Also, there is a great tutorial for those of you who haven’t been indoctrinated into the “Minecraft” community.

Sadly, each map is limited in size. This means there aren’t infinite resources like in the PC version. But that doesn’t mean it’s lacking in fun. There’s still tons of land to explore and more than enough stone and wood to craft to your heart’s content. And the multiplayer option lets you and a friend mine, craft and survive together … or you can just try to kill each other.
If you are or were a fan of Legos, “Minecraft” will take you back to the days of stacking away after the instruction booklet was tossed in the trash. But if you like plot-driven games, this may not be for you — it’s all about using imagination to create your own fun.
