Roger Stone released on $250K bond after indictment in special counsel’s investigation

A federal judge in Florida said Friday longtime political operative Roger Stone can be released on a $250,000 bond after he was indicted on seven counts as part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation.

Stone, a longtime informal adviser to President Trump, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Lurana S. Snow in a federal courthouse in Fort Lauderdale after a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., indicted him on seven counts Thursday. His travel was also restricted to New York, Washington, D.C., and Florida.

He faces one count of obstruction of an official proceeding, five counts of false statements, and one count of witness tampering.

Stone appeared before the judge wearing shackles on his wrists and ankles.

The indictment came as part of Mueller’s ongoing investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and whether members of the Trump campaign colluded with Russia. Stone’s lawyer, however, said federal prosecutors “found no Russian collusion or they would have charged him with it.”

“Roger Stone is vindicated by the fact there was no Russian collusion,” his lawyer, Grant Smith, said.

Stone was arrested in an early-morning raid at his home in Fort Lauderdale.
