Reisterstown man gets 10 years for bank heist

Luvine Summers, 31, of Reisterstown, was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in federal prison for robbing an Ellicott City bank.

On June 7, Luvine Arthur Summers entered the Provident Bank on Route 40 in Ellicott City.

He approached a teller and said, “Put the money in the envelope, hurry up and don?t give me no dye pack,” according to the statement of facts in the case. The teller gave Summers $4,836, including a dye pack, and Summers left the bank.

Moments later several residents in the area adjacent to the bank observed Summers walking through the parking lot, heard an explosion and saw red dye and smoke coming from the bag Summers was carrying, prosecutors said.

Several people stopped and physically detained Summers, until Howard County Police arrived, arrested Summers and recovered the money, which was partially stained from the dye pack, prosecutors said.
