Steam building for return of Restaurant Week

Baltimore City will soon find out what?s for dinner ? and lunch.

Following a strong show of support and enjoyment from residents last summer, the Downtown Partnership has again teamed up with the Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Association and local dinning establishments to bring Restaurant Week back to Charm City. This year?s event is scheduled to run from July 30 to Aug. 5.

“It?s safe to say that last year?s inaugural event surpassed our most optimistic projections in terms of the number of restaurants that participated and the amount of diners who took advantage of the promotion,” said Mike Evitts, spokesman for Downtown Partnership of Baltimore.

“We think our second year will be even better,” Evitts said. “The event isn?t until this summer, but already we have more than 50 of Baltimore?s best restaurants signed up.”

The event is based on residents trying three-course lunches and dinners at city restaurants they might not otherwise frequent. Lunch prices are set at $20.07, while dinners are priced at $30.07.

Calling last summer?s event “the most delicious week of the year,” Nancy Hinds, BACVA?s vice president of public affairs, told The Examiner more than 1,000 reservations were made through Open Table Online during the week, and 47,000 unique visitors visited www.baltimorerestaurantweek.com, spending an average of 10 minutes on the site.

“The program has achieved everything we wanted to achieve,” Hinds said in a previous interview.
