Mike Pence raises $1 million for leadership PAC, report says

Vice President Mike Pence raised $1 million for his leadership PAC during a fundraising event in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, according to a report.

More than 100 lawmakers attended the event for Pence’s leadership PAC, called Great America Committee, according to CNN. Those in attendance included House Speaker Paul Ryan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

Ivanka Trump, an assistant to the president and President Trump’s daughter, also appeared and introduced Pence at the fundraiser.

Pence spoke for 15-20 minutes at the event, CNN reported, and devoted most of his speech to the need for more Republicans to be elected in the 2018 midterms.

The vice president also joked he hoped he wouldn’t need to be the tie-breaking vote again Election Day next year. Earlier Tuesday, Pence cast the tie-breaking vote on the Senate floor on a motion to proceed to debate on a healthcare bill.

Pence announced the creation of the Great America Committee in May, and he is the first sitting vice president to launch a leadership PAC.

The PAC allows Pence to assist Republican candidates ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, and money raised can also be used to pay for travel costs on Air Force Two during future campaigns.
