Julián Castro says he’s ‘very proud’ of his brother for sharing Trump donors’ info

Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro said he was “very proud” of his brother, Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro, for sharing the information of people who have donated the maximum amount to President Trump’s reelection campaign.

Last week, Joaquin Castro drew criticism for posting 44 residents of San Antonio who donated the max to Trump’s campaign.

“Sad to see so many San Antonians as 2019 maximum donors to Donald Trump — the owner of ⁦@BillMillerBarBQ⁩, owner of the ⁦@HistoricPearl, realtor Phyllis Browning, etc⁩.” the Monday tweet said. “Their contributions are fueling a campaign of hate that labels Hispanic immigrants as ‘invaders.'”

Castro, the presidential candidate, was asked about his brother’s decision to post the information, during an appearance on Kasie DC Sunday night.

“Oh, absolutely. I’m very proud of my brother. My brother took what is publicly available information that newspapers, other publications regularly do about people who maxed out, made the maximum contribution to President Trump here in San Antonio and put that forward as he said as a lament to say, wow, just look,” he said.

“I find that very disappointing, very ironic and I believe my brother had every right to do that and people should know who was funding that campaign of hate,” Castro added. “I believe that’s completely legitimate information, and I think one of the reasons that Donald Trump tweeted at my brother is because he must be afraid that people are ashamed that they gave to him or something.”

Both the Trump campaign and the National Republican Congressional Committee accused Castro of “inciting violence.”
