Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., called on Senate Democrats to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, pointing to high praise from a federal judge appointed by President Carter.
Gorsuch, McConnell said, has received wide support in from the legal community across the political spectrum, including from 200 Colorado lawyers who recently signed a letter backing him and Judge John Kane, a Carter appointee.
Kane, McConnell pointed out, recently penned an op-ed for Mimesislaw.com, an online legal website, in which he concluded the piece with this line: “As the saying goes, we could do worse. A hell of a lot worse. I’m not sure we could expect better, or that better presently exists.”
“In other words, no one is better,” McConnell said.
“It’s high praise” coming from a judge appointed by a Democrat, an one who has a “clear-eyed understanding of the standards a jurist must uphold.”
Gorsuch, he said, “deserves fair consideration and an up or down vote.”
