Netanyahu praises Trump’s ‘indelible’ mark on Israel as Kushner arrives to talk peace

Following a meeting between Trump administration officials and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, both the U.S. and Israel are committed to “doing everything possible to create an environment conducive to peacemaking” between the Israelis and Palestinians, according to the White House.

But that process will take time, a statement from the White House said. The statement was sent out following talks which on the U.S. side were led by Jared Kushner, son-in-law and senior adviser to President Trump, along with Jason Greenblatt, assistant to the president and special representative for international negotiations; and United States Ambassador to Israel David Friedman.

The meeting in Jerusalem marks the second time in two months that Kushner has visited Israel. About a month ago he was a part of President Trump’s retinue as he met with both Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas about reaching an elusive peace agreement.

In a video posted to Twitter, shared by both the Israelis and the Trump administration, Netanyahu can be seen greeting Kushner and company, and remarked that when the president visited last month he “made an indelible impression on the Israeli people.”

Also discussed was Israel’s role in maintaining security in the region. The White House says Kushner and Greenblatt will also meet with Abbas and his senior advisors in Ramallah before returning to Washington, D.C., to update the president, along with Secretary of State Tillerson and national Security Advisor McMaster.
