A Miami nurse was charged for allegedly threatening to kill Vice President Kamala Harris after federal agents were made aware of videos depicting the woman ranting about her disdain for the Biden administration.
Special agent David Ballenger became aware of the threats made by Niviane Petit Phelps, a 39-year-old mother of three, in early March through her incarcerated husband, who revealed the threats through an app that allows media communication between incarcerated people and those who are not.
A Secret Service special agent recovered videos and photographs that were purportedly sent by Phelps to her husband.

“The videos (that are of relevance to this investigation) generally depict Phelps complaining and speaking angrily to the camera about her hatred for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, among others,” read the criminal complaint. “However, in these videos, Phelps also made statements about killing Vice President Harris.”
In one of the videos, Phelps directed comments at Harris, telling her “you are going to die” and that her days are numbered, the complaint alleged.
“I’m going to the gun range. … I swear to God, today is your day you’re gonna die,” Phelps said in another video made in February. “Fifty days from today, mark this day down.”
Two days after the video, Phelps was allegedly photographed at a shooting range and subsequently applied for a concealed weapons permit.
Phelps refused to speak with authorities from the Miami-Dade Police Department and the Secret Service and lamented that she had been put on administrative leave from her job, the complaint said.
The details of the case remain under review, and the videos were meant to be private conversations between the suspect and her husband, Phelps’s defense attorney Scott Saul told the Miami Herald.
“It appears as though personal issues in her life, along with the volatile political landscape perpetuated by some, brought some frustrations out of her,” Saul said. “I do not think that there was ever a realistic or imminent threat upon Vice President Kamala Harris.”
Phelps said she was angry about Harris becoming vice president but that it was “over it now,” according to the complaint.

Phelps felt Harris was not actually “black” and complained about how the vice president put her hand on her clutch purse instead of the Bible, the complaint stated.
Phelps, who will be terminated from her nursing job at a local hospital, remains in custody over a judge ruling that she is a “danger to the community.” She could face up to five years in prison if she is convicted.
