ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — Alexandria school officials say all schools went on lock-in after a report of a person brandishing a weapon near one school, but students are now on their way home.
An Alexandria police spokeswoman says police received a report of a person with a weapon in the area of Matthew Maury Elementary School around noon. Police have been searching the area but have not located anyone.
School officials said Tuesday in a statement on their website that was no immediate threat within the schools.
Dismissal was going on as normal at all schools except Maury Elementary School, where students are being delayed in being dismissed and there will be an increased police presence.
The lock-in, in which no one is allowed in or out of the schools, affected 18 schools.
