Jewish inmates get special visitors

In a nationwide effort to visit 5,000 Jewish inmates in 450 prisons, 30 volunteer rabbinical students will meet with Maryland?s Jewish inmates during July.

The students, representing the Florida-based Aleph Institute, travel in twos on a limited budget, driving rented cars and sleeping in motels, in order to help inmates learn to right their wrongs and have faith in God, said Leah Sherman of the Aleph Institute.

“Our programs, and particularly the visitation program, let inmates know that they are cared about,” she said.
