Harvard Law School Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz said he’s been “right from day one” about special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, as he accused CNN of barring him from the network for “being too fair” in his analysis of the probe.
“Look, I have been right from day one and almost all the other pundits and professors have just been dead wrong,” Dershowitz told Fox News on Monday. “It’s time for them to fess up, it’s time for CNN to issue an apology.”
Attorney General William Barr shared a summary of Mueller’s findings with Congress on Sunday, which said the investigation “did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election.”
Barr also cites Mueller for saying “while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.” Mueller did not determine whether Trump obstructed justice, which prompted Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to decide that the evidence “is not sufficient to establish that the president committed an obstruction-of-justice offense.”
Dershowitz, who has been critical of Mueller for “not having the guts” to determine himself whether Trump obstructed justice, also argued Monday that ”CNN wouldn’t have me on the air because they only want a one-sided presentation.” He concluded that CNN viewers were surprised by Barr’s letter, while those who viewed him on Fox News weren’t caught off guard.
“Everybody who watched CNN was shocked by the conclusions of the attorney general,” Dershowitz said. “Nobody who watched me was shocked because I’ve been predicting this from day one.”
Dershowitz, author of The Case Against the Democratic House Impeaching Trump, has long been critical of the Mueller investigation and has predicted for months the Russia inquiry would not prompt criminal repercussions for the president.
“I still don’t think it’s going to make a criminal case because collusion is not criminal,” Dershowitz said on ABC News’ “This Week” in November. “What I think Mueller is going to do if he’s smart is he’s not going to take the chance on being rebutted. He’s just going to lay out just the facts.”
