Trump swipes Prince Harry and Meghan’s treatment of the queen: ‘I don’t think this should be happening to her’

President Trump responded to news that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, plan to leave their positions as senior royals to move to North America.

“I think it’s sad,” Trump told Fox News host Laura Ingraham in an interview released Friday. “I just have such respect for the queen, I don’t think this should be happening to her.”

Senior courtiers warned Thursday that Harry and Meghan were not free from repercussions after the couple announced Wednesday that they were attempting to become “financially independent” from the royal family. The move appears to be an attempt for the two to cash in on their titles without performing royal duties.

“It is incredibly self-indulgent, and the way they made this announcement showed little or no respect to the queen or the prince of Wales, who have been given a lifetime of service to the crown. It is shocking, just shocking behavior,” a source in the royal household said.

Another source said the move was “a declaration of war on the family,” and senior courtiers have said that “Harry and Meghan will be punished for this.”
