The Trump campaign is already fundraising off Attorney General William Barr’s comments this week that the Obama administration spied on Trump campaign operatives during the 2016 presidential election.
“The multi-million dollar investigation is over and it’s time to look into the real problem: the belief that the Obama Administration ‘illegally spied’ on President Trump and the 2016 campaign,” the fundraising email sent to supporters Saturday said. The email also misquotes Barr as saying “unlawful spying did occur.”
There is no evidence made public that any surveillance was unlawful, with Barr saying he is open to investigating the reasons why the Trump campaign was surveilled.

The email then includes a survey asking supporters if they believe the Obama administration spied on Trump. All answer choices land on a Trump campaign page asking for contributions.
“The WITCH HUNT was a total and complete hoax from the beginning,” the email concludes.
House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Devin Nunes, R-Calif., joined other congressional Republicans in supporting Barr’s probe, saying over the last several days that he will send as many as eight criminal referrals to the Justice Department. At the hearing, Barr told lawmakers that he was awaiting Nunes’ information as the new probes unfold.
