A district judge in Texas ordered Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) and state legislators to turn over documents in a lawsuit challenging the state’s new districts formed after redistricting on Thursday.
The lawmakers have 14 days to provide the documents related to the redistricting process to the court, according to documents obtained by Democracy Docket, a media platform formed by voting rights attorney Marc Elias.

The lawsuit, brought by the Texas Latino Redistricting Task Force, alleges the state’s congressional, legislative, and board of education maps, which were created after the 2020 census, are unconstitutional and violate the Voting Rights Act.
Abbott signed the new maps into law in October 2021 with the support of the state legislature.
