Bigfoot fear leads to gunfire in Kentucky

A couple camping at Mammoth Cave National Park in central Kentucky was woken up in the middle of the night by a gun-toting man who was searching for what had destroyed their campsite.

Brad Ginn and Madelyn Durand said they woke up to strange noises over the weekend, and then, a man approached them and told them something had damaged their campsite.

The man told them, “It was Bigfoot country,” and warned them to be careful, Ginn told WBKO.

“He said, ‘I hope you have weapons,’ and then, he flashed his gun at us and was like, ‘I have this, so if anything happens to you, then just yell, and I’ll come,'” Durand said.

The couple headed back to their tent and then heard gunshots. They called police and hiked five miles back to their car to meet with park officials.

Park spokeswoman Molly Schroer told the Courier-Journal there were no injuries, and no threat remains. The incident is still under investigation, she said.

More than 400 alleged Bigfoot sightings have taken place in Kentucky, according to the Kentucky Bigfoot Research Organization.
