Did George H.W. Bush tell group he’ll vote for Hillary Clinton?

Is former President George H.W. Bush quietly backing Democratic nominee HIllary Clinton?

The Republican leader talked about his plans to back Clinton in November during a reception talk before the Points of Light Foundation in Kennebunkport, Maine, on Monday, according to an ABC News report late Tuesday.

Approximately 40 people were in attendance at the event in southern Maine, where the Bushes have a summertime residence.

On Monday night, Kathleen Hartington Kennedy Townsend, the daughter of Robert F. Kennedy and Points of Light Foundation advisory board member, posted on Facebook that Bush had told her he planned to vote for Clinton. Some other people present have said they didn’t hear him say it.

Bush’s spokesman would not confirm or deny the news, telling the Washington Examiner Monday, “The vote President Bush will cast as a private citizen in some 50 days will be just that: a private vote cast in some 50 days. He is not commenting on the presidential race in the interim.” By Tuesday evening, H.W. Bush’s team denied him having said anything.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush lost his bid for the Republican nomination earlier this year and has railed against Donald Trump in the months since.
