President Trump on Monday blamed the partial government shutdown on Democrats, even as most Americans said it’s Trump’s fault that parts of the government have been shuttered for a record 24 days.
“Nancy and Cryin’ Chuck can end the Shutdown in 15 minutes. At this point it has become their, and the Democrats, fault!” Trump tweeted Monday morning.

“I’ve been waiting all weekend. Democrats must get to work now. Border must be secured!” Trump added.

On Saturday, Trump told Fox News that he had not left Washington for months because he has been working hard on a deal to secure a border wall. For weeks now, he has said that Democrats could end the partial government shutdown by negotiating with him.
He also said Democrats were taking vacations while the shutdown continued, and thousands of federal workers continue to either work without pay or take unpaid leave.
But while Trump blamed Democrats, the majority of Americans are blaming Trump.
In a new CNN poll, conducted by phone by SSRS, 55 percent of respondents blamed Trump while 32 percent blame congressional Democrats for the longest shutdown in U.S. history, which is now in its fourth week.
The poll was conducted Jan. 10-11, when the shutdown was nearing the end of its third week.
The shutdown began on Dec. 22 when Trump and Democrats could not agree on a funding bill that included money for a physical barrier at the southern border.
Even though people blame Trump for the shutdown, the amount of Americans who support the wall has hit an all time high. Over the weekend, a ABC News and Washington Post poll found that 42 percent of Americans support the border wall.
