What ever happened to Rep. Anthony Weiner?
The former New York congressman, who launched a thousand bad jokes after being caught texting lewd pictures of his private parts to women who were not his wife, resigned in disgrace in June 2011, but he may not be done with politics. The New York Post reports that the Queens Democrat still has $4.5 million in campaign cash and a campaign office and is considering a run for local office, possibly mayor of New York.
Who is Fred Cooke?
The former D.C. Corporation Counsel — a city government post that evolved into the role of D.C. attorney general — is representing several public figures involved in recent municipal political scandals. The Howard University graduate’s clients include former D.C. Council Chairman Kwame Brown and two members of Mayor Vincent Gray’s 2010 campaign. Cooke has a long history of representing D.C. power brokers in trouble: He was Councilman Marion Barry’s lawyer for years.
Will Penn State remove the statue of coach Joe Paterno?
The university is under intense pressure to remove the statue of the iconic coach from outside Beaver Stadium after an investigation determined that Paterno, fearing bad publicity, helped cover up child abuse allegations against assistant coach Jerry Sandusky back in 2001. School trustees and administrators will have the final say on the statue’s fate but have set no deadline for a decision. Paterno died in January. His family is challenging the investigation’s findings.
