Jacqueline Klimas, national security writer for the Washington Examiner, is in Brussels with Defense Secretary Ash Carter this week as he prepares for a NATO ministerial meeting.
Klimas told the Examiner’s Jamie McIntyre that Carter plans to discuss NATO participation in the fight against the Islamic State, America’s changing strategy in Afghanistan and the U.S. response to the attacks in Orlando this weekend. Speaking to reporters on Monday during the flight, Carter also announced that, for the first time, Iraqis called in U.S. Apache attack helicopters for air support.
