For 20th year, Johns Hopkins named U.S.’s #1 hospital

Johns Hopkins has been named the top hospital in America for the 20th year in a row by U.S. News and World Report. The magazine’s annual rankings placed the hospital first in five medical specialties and in the top five in 10 others.

The Baltimore hospital was tops in gynecology; ear, nose and throat; neurology and neurosurgery; urology; and rheumatology.

Hospital administrators on Thursday gave credit to employees.

“We are lucky that we have many wonderful, dedicated, skilled employees. Bricks are bricks; buildings are buildings. We are fortunate to have the best of the best in our people,” hospital spokesman Gary Stephenson said.

Stephenson said the hospital saw no surprises in the rankings this year. “We often frankly downplay the significance of this,” he said. “But if we ever didn’t get No. 1, I think we would all be pretty concerned.”
