Skull found in Alabama belongs to man electrocuted while stealing power

A skull found in a front yard was of a man who was electrocuted after trying to steal electricity, police in Alabama said.

Sheriff Matthew Wade of Calhoun County, Ala., identified the man as 56-year-old Randall Stephens, who was released from Calhoun County Jail last month after spending seven months behind bars on drug and gun charges, according to AL.com.

At the time of his arrest last year, Stephens had been stealing electricity.

On Friday, Law enforcement got a call from a neighbor about the skull in the front yard at about 7 a.m. as he was leaving his home. Upon searching the nearby area, deputies found a body at the bottom of a power pole that was already badly decomposed.

Wade and investigators found a ladder, jumper cables, and a belt at the power pole, and concluded Stephens had been jumping the power lines to illegally get electricity to his home.

While officers do not know exactly when Stephens died, Wade issued the warning, “Respect electricity. Not only is stealing power illegal, it is deadly.”
